CNC Programmer-2nd Shift

Position SummaryUtilizes numerical control programs to generate control contour path tapes for burning and machining of metal parts on automatic machine tools by performing the following duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Analyzes shop routings, drawings, sketches, and design data to determine dimensions and configuration of cuts using computer aided drafting software.
Prepares program of machine instructions in symbolic language to encode numerical control tape or other electronic transfer methods, to control movement of machine tools along proper cutting paths.
Prepares geometric layouts and instruction sheets to show proper setup of machine, sequence of operations, selection of cutting tools, cutting paths, machine speeds and feeds.
Assists with machine setups as needed.
Prepares these programs for both in-house machine tools and outside burning vendors.
Provides support and diagnostic assistance for both.
Updates programs to reflect drawing revisions or changes in manufacturing procedure Prepares layouts of complex details or nested items to provide Manufacturing Engineering with proper dimensions of parts.
Responsible for maintaining a backup of all N.
C.
programs and offsite storage of backup data.
Proofreads burn packages created by Manufacturing Engineering for completeness and correctness.
Designs special fixtures or tooling to increase shop productivity or improve quality as required.
Must have good understanding of machining process and tooling concepts.
Other Manufacturing Engineering tasks and special projects as required.
Assists other department personnel as necessary.
Other duties may be assigned.

Education Associate's degree (A.
A.
) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or a minimum of 5-7 year(s) related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience Skills/Experience Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability:
Plan and perform a wide variety of duties requiring general knowledge of company policies and procedures applicable within area of responsibilities and including their application to cases not previously covered.
Requires considerable judgment to work independently toward general results, devising methods, modifying, or adapting standard procedures to meet different conditions, making decisions based on precedent and company policies.

Proven experience in related field.
